Newsletter September 2025

Hello everyone.

Despite being confronted with some sad personal matters during our visit, we can still look back on a very successful trip to our projects in Kenya. We have only positive news to share with you.

You undoubtedly remember Salome Njorage from the Salome House project in Mai Mahiu, about 100 km from Nairobi, Kenya. She lives in a refugee camp and received a plot of land from the government for her shelter. At the time, it consisted of plastic and tarpaulin. So, as far as you can call a decent shelter.

During our stay, we bought materials for her and her children to build a house. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work like it does in the Netherlands. You have to chase everything yourself, find various companies that can supply something, and find the people who can make it all happen. We were partly successful. For them, the mother and children, the house is finished and habitable. After all, it’s better now than it was. For our foundation, it’s not finished yet. It doesn’t have to meet Dutch standards, but we believe it needs further finishing. Everything still needs to be painted, and the windows and doors need to be glazed. Funding is needed for this so we can finish it during our next visit in 2026.

Ebenaza Rescue Home

This home for (orphaned) children was founded by Gabriel Nderstu and provides shelter for children whose parents are addicted to drugs and other substances. Currently, approximately 30 children attend each day. They receive instruction, food, and hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Reformed Church of Gerkesklooster-Stroobos supported this home with a one-time donation. Our foundation acted as an intermediary for them because the church itself cannot travel there. We had 20 chairs and tables made on behalf of the church so the children no longer have to sit on the floor.

The old situation is shown on the left. Quite an improvement (right and below).

Individual Support

In addition to the municipality of Gerkesklooster-Stroobos, the foundation also helps individuals who have “adopted” a child in Kenya. These “parents” are also unable to support the child financially directly because they cannot transfer money to a bank and are unsure whether it will be properly received. We arrange everything during our visit and inform the parents about the progress upon their return.

Sponsors wanted

We have received a request to enable 10 more children to attend primary school. Their parents, who are primarily addicted to alcohol and drugs, struggle to afford this financially. The cost for a child is €50.00 per quarter annually. This includes a school uniform (mandatory), books, etc. Sometimes parents pay for an additional teacher for their child’s safety. This teacher acts as a kind of classroom assistant.

The children (20) who attend primary school, secondary school, higher education, and training, and whom the foundation has been supporting for some time, are doing well.

Thanks again to everyone for their support. We will continue to count on you.

Sincerely, Janet Eikelenboom
